Day 117 Getty Fountain

I went to the Getty Museum today with Justin and Brian. Unfortunately, the sun was way too bright for many good pictures. We had fun anyway and are planning another short outing real soon. These fountains are kind of nice to look at and I'm sure they would photograph much better later in the day.

Day 90 Christmas Season Begins

Well, Christmas Season has begun at Village Bible Church. Tonight a lot of people came to decorate the Church campus inside and out. Janene Zirges leads the way with plenty of help from a lot of creative people. This is one of the displays that sits above the stage. I could not do it justice in that light, but it still looks kinda cool.

Day 78 Kids

Here are some kids from our church playing a game. I have no idea what it's called nor do I know exactly what the rules are. They get in a circle and are supposed to hold still. Then one of them make a move to strike another player adjacent to them. The other person is allowed to make one move to avoid being hit. It is kind of fun to watch.

Day 76 Angel of Friendship

The other night some friends of ours came by (Dave and Christy Ritner) and gave this statue to Kim. It is called "Angel of Friendship" It is an Angel cuddling what appears to be a Yellow lab puppy. It was very thoughtful and a much appreciated gift. It was very nice to have our friends come by and extend their sympathy. I really appreciated that.

Day 75 Duke

This kind of happened real fast. Kim has a friend who knew some people who needed to find a good home for a Yellow Lab. I was not looking to "replace" my friend. That can never happen. However, I have added a new buddy and his name is Duke. He is two years old and man, is he ACTIVE. So far he gets along fine with Kobe (who has already let him know who is the boss). Brendan, however, can't stand him. That will take time, I suppose. Duke could not care less about the cat, but I think he'd better watch out for a few days.  So, here he is.

Day 74 Lonely Buddy

Here's our other dog, Kobe. I don't know if he has fully realized Thor is gone just yet. Kobe has never been alone for more than a day. We got him at 6 weeks when we still had Isaiah. I took this one just as he was waking up this afternoon. He's a very sweet dog.

Day 73 Thor

At 9:53 this morning I said goodbye to my friend. I held him tightly and had my hand over his heart as life left his worn out body. I wept over him for a short time and then left the veterinarian's office, still in tears. I came home and then cried some more. It isn't easy saying good bye to a good friend. Below is a poem I found when I lost my Golden Retriever Isaiah. You may have heard of it. It's called the Rainbow Bridge.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown...

I miss you, my friend.

Day 72 Goodbye, Old Friend

This the last picture I will take with my Yellow Lab, Thor. Today, I learned my old friend has inoperable, terminal cancer. He has a large tumor at the base of his tail that also encapsulates his internal organs in the area. I laid down with him one last time tonight and my heart is breaking right now.

He is a good dog who always thought I was the best thing ever.

He greeted me at the door and slept by my bed.

He loved me and I love him.

I will miss him.

Day 71 Kids at Play

Today we celebrated Brody's 5th birthday with a lot of fun and frolicking. There was a Dinosaur theme and the garage was decorated like a cave.  There was a bounce house and a Pinata and I think all of the kids had a great time.  This is the sign that was placed in the street to get the drivers to slow down. Very effective.

So I spent 3 hours in the ER today. I have an umbilical hernia and it was causing excruciating pain today. I tried to tough it out, but could not, so off to the hospital I went. I'll need surgery real soon according to the Doc. Anyway, here's my admitting bracelet.
